Venetian Glass "Wedding Cake" Double-Strand Necklace

What is a wedding cake necklace? These gorgeous handmade glass beads are created by winding hot colored glass around a copper vise, which forms the hole when removed. The glass is infused with squiggles or rosebuds or glittery metals, all applied by hand. Wedding cake jewelry comes in all colors and sizes and in single and multiple strand necklaces and earrings, too. Also called "Fiorato", or flowered, the name "wedding cake" came into use because the hot glass drips and resembles icing.
 
Though they've been made for hundreds of years in Venice, Italy (or the island of Murano just off the Italian coast), there was a resurgence of interest in this particular type of glass beaded necklace in the U.S. in the 1920's and 1930's. 
 
Not including the clasp, the long strand measures 26", the short strand 24". Condition is excellent!
